equal love
100% steel. Hand plasma cut and hand welded.

In Norwegian, “viktig” (important) comes from “vektig” (heavy), importance is equated with weight.
"Equal Love" is a kinetic sculpture that explores the weight and imbalance of human affection. Gravity, motion, action and consequence is illustrated through a weighting mechanism. Two candles rest on a scale of hand-forged steel: when one rises, the other falls. As the flames burn unevenly, the structure shifts. Together, they create a dialogue between surrender and power. What falls can lift
Although separated by distance, their steel connection continues a push and pull dynamic. Audience engagement of work invites agency and consideration of emotional labor. The work is also inspired by the altar lights of churches, a space where devotion materialize in flame. Candles are bound by time, and so are relations.
